Hard Boiled Eggs Recipe

If you've struggled with how to hard boil eggs, or how long to hard boil an egg, look no further. With this simple technique, you'll make perfect hard-boiled eggs every time.

You'll sometimes hear hard boiled eggs referred to as "hard cooked" eggs. But why get technical about it? We cook the eggs using boiling water, so it makes sense to call it a hard boiled egg.

For this hard boiled egg recipe you'll need a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan with a tight-fitting lid.

TIP: Fresher eggs are harder to peel. So if you want to make the peeling experience easier, try boiling eggs that have been in your fridge for a week or so.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 17 minutes

Total Time: 27 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs

Preparation:

  1. Place eggs in a heavy-bottomed saucepan and cover them with cold water. Make sure the tops of the eggs are covered by at least an inch of water. How much water will depend on the size of the pot, but in general, a bigger pot is better. Crowding the eggs risks cracking them.

  2. Bring the water to a full boil, uncovered, then remove the pot from the heat and cover it. Let the pot stand untouched for 17 minutes.

  3. Remove the boiled eggs from the water and transfer them to a bowl of cold water for 15 minutes. Then either peel and serve or refrigerate.
